Some guideline prices for specific services are provided below for your information.
What is Audio Post-Production?
Post-production in the film making / video production industry is essentially the process of refining all elements of a film / animation to create a polished finished product, and audio post-production refers to the refinement of specifically the audio elements of the work. Audio post-production overseas many processes including: clean-up of initial recordings, adding music, creating and adding sound effects and foley, adding or replacing dialogue / recordings, and balancing all elements of the audio to create a soundscape to the standard we expect from commercial cinema / video. As you can probably appreciate, audio post-production is a huge responsibility since it's the final chance to improve the audio track of a film / animation before it is released, and the task is often split up between a team of engineers with specific roles. You could think of it as the equivalent to mixing and mastering a piece of recorded music, though in reality, it's often much more.
Specialised audio post-production is something unfortunately often neglected from amateur videos / animations, often because there is a tendency to focus more on the visual elements of the work, rather than the whole audio-visual experience. A well balanced audio track with specially treated dialogue, sound effects and music can however do wonders for your work and really make it stand out towards the commercial standards. It's always a great feeling to experience an animation with the same depth and life in the sound as the visuals, and I aim to help you meet that standard in your audio-visual works.

Why hire an Audio Post-Production Engineer?
There are many reasons why you'd want to hire (at least one) audio post-production engineer for your projects. Examples include not being comfortable with doing the audio post-production yourself, or not having the equipment / experience to do so effectively. Audio post-production is often a difficult and time consuming task and like many things, if done wrong can do more damage than good to the audio track of your project. Another reason you may wish to hire an audio post-production engineer is that there simply isn't enough time for a single person to focus on both the visual and audio elements before a deadline. Hiring someone to take care of your audio post-production will allow you to focus on the visual elements of the work and get your project finished faster, more efficiently, and with less stress. Overall, hiring an experienced audio post-production engineer is often the best way to ensure your audio-visual projects will sound their best before you release them to the world.
Styles of Audio Post-Production
In a similar way to music, there are various different styles of overall audio post-production to choose from depending on your project and its release goals. Examples include:
Of course, there are many other audio post-production styles and combinations, and these are a just few examples of the styles you may wish to incorporate into your productions. Whether you already have a style in mind, or would like to discuss which style may be appropriate for your projects, I'm happy to discuss the options for your project and help you achieve your audio post-production goals.
- Cinematic Style: Often a huge dynamic range, clear but natural dialogue, music volume often adaptive to the amount of dialogue, and lots of natural ambiance and sound effects, all to create a full, larger than life and engaging soundscape.
- Televised Animation Style: Less dynamic range, emphasis on clear and consistent dialogue, often music and dialogue separated (so when there's dialogue, there's no music, and vica versa), much less or no natural ambiance and sound effects only when they have a specific purpose, all to create a clear and dialogue driven soundscape.
- Informational Style: Much less dynamic range, focus on loud, clear and consistent dialogue, no natural ambiance, either lots of sound effects, or music with minimal sound effects, all to create a dialogue focused soundscape where providing information is the main goal.
- Natural Style: Medium-large dynamic range depending on purpose, focus on capturing the moment as clearly as possible often with minimal additional recordings added, all to create a clear but natural sounding audio snapshot to accompany the video.

- Audio Cleanup and Correction (from £25): A key part of any audio track is making sure it’s pristine quality for the purpose intended. I currently offer a range of audio cleanup services, and work carefully to make the cleanup as transparent as possible within the constraints of the original audio. Remember though, the best recording is a recording without the need for correction, and some artifacts are to be expected with any cleanup/correction. Cleanup services include*:
2) Timing correction
3) Noise reduction (hum, static and simple background noise)
4) Voice-over and vocal cleanup (Plosives and sibilance)
5) Re-equalisation of overly harsh or boomy recordings
6) Minor clipping reduction
*Please note, I am currently unavailable to provide: reverb / ambient reduction, polyphonic pitch correction.
- Dialogue Mixing (from £50): Another important part of many audio-visual projects is the consistency and clarity of dialogue. Dialogue mixing will ensure a vocal track is as pristine as it can be as well as minimising the differences between vocal takes to give a better sense of continuity for the overall dialogue, both in terms of volume and tone. For projects with multiple voice-over artists, dialogue mixing also aims to deliver consistency in volume and tone between the various voices, putting all the characters in the same space, rather than everyone sounding like they're recording in different rooms, with different equipment, etc... which is often the case. For cinematic productions and other projects where the voice is a character in a space, dialogue mixing also aims to place them spatially in the environment they're supposed to be. This can be with the use of stereo panning*, or placement effects such as reverb, echo, or strategic mixing techniques. My Dialogue Mixing package includes the noise reduction, voice-over cleanup and re-equalisation as provided in the Audio Cleanup services.
- Sound Design / Foley (from £10): Sound effects can provide a great addition to the atmosphere of a project and are often a fun challenge to make. Before commissioning a new sound to be created, please have a quick browse through my current library on Pond5 to see if it has already been made. If you can’t find anything suitable, please send me details of what you require and I’ll see what I can offer. I can also offer round-robin sound effects and alternative / component versions if your project requires it. Please note, this service is not for creating sonic logos or jingles for business purposes, though I do offer logo / jingle creation. Please contact me for further details.
- Sound Effect and Foley Mixing / Syncing (from £50): With many sound effects in a project, it is often a daunting task balancing and placing them all in the sound-stage. Sound effect mixing / syncing will ensure each sound is given the appropriate sonic space to shine and appears in sync with the visuals. For cinematic productions and other projects where the sound effects are in a space, sound effect mixing also aims to place sounds spatially in the environment they're supposed to be. This can be with the use of stereo panning*, or placement effects such as reverb, echo, or strategic mixing techniques. As with the Dialogue Mixing package, the Sound Effect and Foley mixing package includes noise reduction, cleanup and re-equalisation as provided in the Audio Cleanup services.
- Stem Mastering (from £75): Once each element of the audio is prepared, they will all need to be balanced and mastered to produce the final audio track. The Stem Mastering package aims to balance* the dialogue stem, sound effect stem, foley stem, background / ambient stem, music / soundtrack stem, etc... (all post-mixing) before giving the final polish and preparing the final audio for video.
- Complete Audio Post-Production Packages (from £150): Sometimes you just need someone to oversee the entire audio post-production process. The Complete Audio Post-Production Package includes:
2) Dialogue Mixing
3) Sound Effect and Foley Mixing / Syncing
4) Stem Mastering
Additional services may be made available on request. To commission music or soundtrack audio for your production, please see the JabunAudio Services page for more information.
Audio Post-Production with JabunAudio: How it all works
The JabunAudio audio post-production project workflow can be broken down into a few simple steps, which if followed correctly will ensure the smoothest workflow for your project:
that a processed version is already better, please send over your preferred version and the raw version so I have a
comparison
2) Audio has at least 3dB - 6dB of clean headroom to ensure no digital clipping damages the signal
3) Unless you require syncing for sound effects, please ensure the start points of the audio tracks match the start
point of the video and that all of the final sound tail is there so that I have the complete audio to work with
4) Audio is provided in a lossless format (WAV or AIFF) at a minimum of 16 bit (preferably 24 or 32 bit) and 44.1kHz
or higher
For stem mastering, I ask that each of the stems meets these standards with the additional condition that all stems and the
video track have the exact same start and end points, to ensure that all the elements are properly synced. For mixing services
where placement is required, please also provide a medium resolution AVI file for video reference.
2) What are your goals for the final video?
3) What style of audio post-production would you think best suits your project?
4) Is there a specific style / film studio you'd like to emulate sonically? If so feel free to provide links or files for
reference material
5) What digital format would you like the finished audio provided in?
6) What are the project timescales or how fast do you need audio delivered?
Once I know your goals for the project and which services you require, I will provide a total cost for the services and an
approximate project timescale from my end (this will be dependent on the audio I receive and the overall project timescale).
After further discussion, if you're happy to continue, we can proceed to the next step.
- Preparing your audio: In order to get the best possible results from your audio, it is vital that I receive files meeting certain format standards. I ask that before you send over your audio files, please make sure they are prepared as follows. I will advise if audio for cleanup is beyond the scope that my cleanup services offer. If you have any questions about preparing your audio, please feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to help:

- Placing a post-production request: To request my services, please message me using this CONTACT form or via EMAIL to discuss how you'd like me to help with your projects. Contacting me at the earliest point in your project will give me the best flexibility to advise on audio before it is even recorded, and keep to your project timescales. Some questions to think about before I start work are:
2) What are your goals for the final video?
3) What style of audio post-production would you think best suits your project?
4) Is there a specific style / film studio you'd like to emulate sonically? If so feel free to provide links or files for

After further discussion, if you're happy to continue, we can proceed to the next step.
- Invoices, Contracts and Payment: Once you're happy with the total cost and the details of the project to be delivered, I will prepare an invoice / contract for the services I am providing. My main request in the contract, apart from standard legal protection, will just to be credited for the work I provide. Contracts will be provided on a per project basis and are subject to some negotiation, so if you're unhappy about any elements / clauses, please let me know and we can discuss possible alternatives. For sound effect commissions, audio will be created and licensed for your projects only, rather than sold to you. You may not resell or distribute the commissioned sound effect without prior written consent from myself. Requested payment schedules will vary depending on project timescales. For most work, I will request 50% up front and 50% on completion of the task. For rush or urgent work, I will request 100% of the cost up front. For longer time-scale projects, I will request payment at either regular intervals during the project, or on delivery of certain tasks within the project. Refunds will not be given on payments for audio successfully delivered due to the time invested. Payments can be made via PayPal which will be detailed on any invoices.
- Updates, Initial delivery, revisions and final delivery: Once I have received initial payment, I will proceed to work and aim to provide you with updates at regular intervals during the project, and once I have finished my commissioned task, I will deliver a draft version of the final audio for your project. Updates and initial delivery will be delivered at CD quality only. Once you have listened to the initial delivery, if there are any further adjustments you'd like me to make, for example overall bassiness / brightness or loudness, dialogue / sound effect / music level, etc... please provide details and I'll do my best to accommodate to your needs (Please note: if you are unable to provide detailed feedback, then I'm unable to make the adjustments). Rinse and repeat within reason until you are satisfied with the finished product. Once you are happy with the final CD quality audio, I will ask for the final payments (if not already processed) and once received will deliver the HD final audio in all formats specified.
- Feedback and streaming links: Once you are satisfied with the completed project, feel free to send over streaming or library links to the finished project, and I may share them in my portfolio. Sharing links can be some free advertising for yourself and also helps provide a taste of what I do for future clients. Feel free to provide feedback on my services as well as it allows me to improve the service for future clients.
