Introducing The TapeFX Collection: 6 LIVE Tape Slow/Stop effects for the KORG Nu:Tekt NTS-1 Digital Synth Kit! (Free download or donation)

3/6/2026

JabunAudio presents The TapeFX Collection: 6 new LIVE Tape Slow/Stop effects based on DOTEC-AUDIO's StopFX:

Effect Type: DelayFX

Controls:
A Knob = Pitch drops / slows down as you increase the value
B Knob = No effect
B Knob Shift = No effect

Tapestop (like the original stopFX but it starts slowing down as soon as the A Knob is not minimum)
Tapeslow (maximum slowness is half-speed (-1 octave))
Tapeslower (maximum slowness is quarter-speed (-2 octaves))

+ each of those again with the label "nr".
The originals when turned to minimum reset to the live audio feed while
the "nr" (no reset) versions keep playing on the buffer channel so you
don't get that jump back to live which can be more useful in studio situations.

Notes:
There is still a limit to the amount of information which can be stored in the buffer, so the audio will skip at as the buffer limit is reached (slower setting will skip more frequently). While I've tested all these effects as thoroughly as I can on my own NTS-1, these effects are provided on a "use at your own risk" basis (I've not been able to test it on the Prologue or Minilogue XD (etc...) platforms). JabunAudio and Nick Standing are not responsible for any loss arising from the use of this download package. Have fun!

The TapeFX Collection is free to download, but if you'd like to make a donation it always helps me continue with these projects and I'd be truly grateful for the support. Any updates will be posted on this page:

June 2026 Blog Post: Better Than The Book LIVE album updates ( + a sneak peek for the $10 patrons), more project updates, modular synth epiphanies and videos and free stuff + more!

Hello everyone and hope you're having a great start to the summer! It's been a busy month of mixing (more on that later), visits and more, and I may have been overdoing it a bit again and needing to reel things in, but I have some super cool news to share with you this time on various projects and curiosities! Let's get started!

First of all let's start with some project updates! Better Than The Book's Ten Years On debut LIVE album (recorded at the debut LIVE show in February) is really coming along nicely and while I was only planning to do 3 full tracks last month then get back to some Jabun, I got on quite the rolling flow state and ended up getting MUCH more done than expected! All the instruments, guitars, bass, harmonica, drums, interludes and master mixing is all done now, with just the 3 vocal mics for 6 final tracks left to do, and 4 full tracks completed this month! I must admit though, it's been quite a listening/thinking workout and my ears are feeling a bit fatigued at the moment, so I've been taking a little break this last week to do some other things while I recover (more on that in a bit). With the above progress on BTTB, I've not had a chance to look into mixing the 2nd volume of Jabun's Lost Tracks just yet, but the current plan is finish off an initial mix for the BTTB album, then rest my ears of that and take a Jabun detour so they're both ready for mastering at similar times! Still lots to go, but it's sounding REALLY nice (IMHO) and I think you're going to love it! For those of you who are $10 patrons, I'm giving you a sneak peek demo mix for the first quarter of the full show (a whole 15 minutes) in your rewards this month! Check that out below and I hope you enjoy it:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/june-10-160026586/

While we're on the topic of BTTB, the recent Newgrounds based video game Ally's New Life (which features BTTB's Side Character In My Own Life) is now available for PC (Windows) download! Check out the download page below and a big thanks again to Some-Crappy-Edits for featuring my music in the project!

https://some-crappy-edits.itch.io/allys-new-life-lucky-day

Finally for this month and back to my own projects and explorations, after finishing reading the first of the Patch & Tweak books on semi-modular synthesis I received for my birthday last month (KORG one is finished, Moog one is about 20% through at the moment), my drive to explore my own KORG Volca Modular system (as heard on Jabun's June22 and Tides albums) was kicked into 5th gear! During my own experiments I stumbled upon some interesting curiosities as well as a MAJOR epiphany/discovery of an unintentional but crazy powerful undocumented feature which I honesty think is going to blow some peoples minds and open some massive doors on this synth! last week I made 2 detailed videos exploring those concepts and put them up on YouTube for the community to expand their knowledge and learn from. You'd think after 7 years of this synth being released that all the features would have been explored by now, but then you find something and it's like you opened the gate to a new world! Special thanks to ChrisLody for the inspiration for the first of these techniques and I hope you enjoy the explorations! I'll let the videos speak for themselves below!

On top of that, I FINALLY got around to sharing something I've been meaning to for a long time for another of my synths, the Roland J-6! This one's less revolutionary, more just helpful, but in short to compensate for a lack of detail in the user manual I created a sheet detailing the preset sounds on the synth and how best to edit them for crafting your own sounds! The sheet is available as a free download with optional donation on the JabunAudio website and has a brief accompanying video to explain it too! I hope you synth nerds out there get a kick out of these 3 new videos (+ download) and check them out below:

  • KORG Volca Modular Tips and Tricks: Hidden Voltage Sources and Advanced Proxy CV Motion Sequencing!

  • KORG Volca Modular Tips and Tricks: Exploring feedback!

I do have 2 more videos I'd like to make over the next week or so as well so stay tuned and subscribe and all that jazz for more synthy stuff coming soon!

That about wraps things up for this post! Following the current flow, I'm aiming to start by getting these 2 synth videos done and out, then get back to finishing an initial first mix going all the way through the entire 70+ minute Better Than The Book gig (6 tracks left to do) before getting around to mixing the latest batch of 8 Jabun Lost Tracks (Vol. 2) There's a lot to do, so we'll see how fast and how long it takes to get done, but it's certainly exciting times to come! Until the next post, thanks as always for supporting my music on Patreon and however you can and I look forward to checking back in in July! Take care and have fun (and happy synthing if applicable)!

Roland AIRA Compact J-6 Comprehensive Preset Sounds Patch Sheet! (Free download or donation)

(Note in case of confusion: I use the words sounds, presets and patches pretty interchangeably in the video)

I love my J-6! It sounds great but my big frustration with it is trying to find the sound I want since it's preset based rather than a fully tweakable synthesizer like the Juno60 it's based on (64 presets with just controls for the filter and envelope).

After much playing around I created a patch sheet which details all 64 sound presets with some tips for exploration too. I hope you find it useful and that this map helps you find the sound you're looking for!

The Roland J-6 Preset Sounds Sheet is free to download, but if you'd like to make a donation it always helps me continue with these projects and I'd be truly grateful for the support. Any updates will be posted on this page:

May 2026 Blog Post: Jabun Lost Tracks Vol. 1 fully out on YouTube/Newgrounds, Vol. 2 fully recorded (sneak peek for the $10 patrons), back to mixing the BTTB LIVE Album, Tank Five(?!), lots of Newgrounds features + more!

Hello everyone and hope you're having a great start to May! It's been a busy one over here, trying not to overdo things as I'm still recovering (and sniffling from hay fever) but trying to move forward at my own pace. I took a nice week off for my birthday to go down south and spend some much needed time with family and friends though which was very appreciated and I'm feeling a bit more recharged now (just gotta watch myself)! I received some amazing music related books as gifts amongst other things too! Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass (which has been a ridiculously detailed delight so far and feels almost as heavy as my doubleneck) + Patch & Tweak with KORG (and due a shipping error with MOOG too) all about semi-modular synthesis! Reading's been keeping me from overworking, but I still managed to make some time to make some music so let's get onto this month's updates!

First of all, Jabun Lost Tracks Vol. 1 is now fully out on YouTube and Newgrounds! Check out the playlists below:

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWEmqIhrNPvR3yfzBxSSvM9ll42HqoDOW
Newgrounds: https://www.newgrounds.com/collection/519920/jabun-lost-tracks

And with another 2 tracks recorded, Vol. 2 is now fully recorded and just awaiting mixing / mastering and prep for release too! I can confirm it'll be another 8 tracks, and there's still a (final) Vol. 3 to come which according to my current counts will be another 8 tracks as well + 1 bonus one to finish off the collection! For those of you who are $10 patrons, you have a sneak peek at "Broken" from Vol. 2 in your rewards this month! Check that out here:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/157056197/

Next up on the news, after almost 2 months away from it, just this week I got back to mixing the multitrack recordings taken from Better Than The Book's Ten Years On Debut LIVE show in February! At over 70 minutes long, it's gonna take a while to get through and man oh man there is SO MUCH MIC BLEED, but I'm super pleased and proud of how it's sounding so far! An initial mix has been done for the first quarter of the show + all the in between talky bits, but I know there'll be some extra do-overs once I've done the bulk of the work across the whole show! I'll be doing it in chunks over the next few months I recon and with any luck it'll be out before the end of the year or at least before 11 Years On!

Next on the news and back to Lost Tracks, there's been a tonne of love for the project over on Newgrounds with 4 tracks getting front page features and another being featured in the Tank Tribune (Newgrounds' newspaper)! An older track Rebirth from the June22 EP also got featured for Takeover Tuesday too! Thanks so much for all the love Newgrounds and you can check out all the features for this month below:

April 2, 2026 -  Jabun's Chocolate Birds Part 1 receives Front Page Award on Newgrounds.com
April 7, 2026 - Jabun's Rebirth featured in Takeover Tuesday on Newgrounds.com
April 16, 2026 - Jabun's Longing receives Front Page Award on Newgrounds.com
April 20, 2026 - Jabun's Lost Tracks - Thinking featured on The Tank Tribune / Phonograph Vol. 134 playlist on Newgrounds.com
April 23, 2026 - Jabun's Moving Forward receives Front Page Award on Newgrounds.com

Finally something silly to round off this month's news, I had a very stupid mashup going around my head so I took an evening to make it a very low effort stupid reality! Check out Tank Five! below and I make no apologies! Enjoy (that's a command not a request XD)!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqMv0elygsI

That's about it for this month. I'm aiming to get another few tracks mixed for BTTB's live album over the next few weeks, and if possible start going over those Lost Tracks mixes when I have the time and my ears are rested. I do however urgently need to service my Leslie speaker and Marshall amp, and I also got a new bridge for my Jaguar guitar which I'm looking forward to installing, so I'm sure I'll have plenty to do (and need to pace myself)! Until the next post I hope you enjoy all the new music and thanks as always for supporting my projects however you can! All the best and take care!

April 2026 Blog Post: A Better Than The Book April Fools AMV, Jabun's Lost Tracks releases, features and project updates + a personal update.

1/4/2026

Hi everyone and hope you're having a great April Fools Day so far! There's not a whole lot to share this time which I'll address as the end of the post but lets start with the fun stuff:

To kick things off, here's a Better Than The Book AMV with one of the best trashy anime's I've seen in recent years! This has been sitting unlisted on YouTube for around 2 years now, and with the Side Character In My Own Life and debut gig out of the way, it's finally time to let it loose and see how many subscribers I can lose! Happy April Fools Day and enjoy "Dropkick on Jashin Chan's Artificial Ignorance 「AMV」"!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84zuGfl_u-Y

Next on the news this month, the first 4 tracks from Jabun's Lost Tracks Collection have been released, and track 2 "Flow State" even got a Front Page feature on Newgrounds! Thanks peeps! Check it out below along with the rest of the playlists on YouTube (new tracks added on Thursdays):

Flow State: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1539493

While we're on the topic of Jabun's Lost Tracks, a quick update for the project to share: as it stands 6 out of the 8 tracks planned for Volume 2 are now fully recorded and just need a mix and a master! For those who want a sneak peek, I'm sharing the pre-mix for one of my favourite tracks so far "The Journey" with all the $10 patrons this month. Check out the post below and I hope you enjoy it!

https://www.patreon.com/posts/154493623

Finally for this month and all jokes aside, a personal update: I'm not usually the type to share stuff like this especially when things aren't positive so I'll keep things intentionally vague, but it's come to a point where it's significantly impacting my work, ability to make music, and just generally function, so I think it's important I let you know.

The short of it is, despite the outwardly positive and productive news I've been sharing, I've not actually been doing well at all for a few months now, and it's come to the point where I need to seriously take a step back, slow down, reassess and address some things, and get some help. In terms of what that means for me musically, that means I'll be taking things at a completely no-pressure pace for the foreseeable future with the main projects at the moment being Jabun's Lost Tracks and Better Than The Book's Ten Years On LIVE album. As well as this, there may be some difficult decisions to make regarding other aspects of things and JabunAudio. I'll post updates as and when but in the mean time, thanks as always for supporting me and my music however you can and I hope to be back to my usual self soon. I'm hoping this time to reassess and reset will make for a more sustainable future for my music.

That's it for this post. I'm hoping to work on those last 2 tracks of Jabun's Lost Track volume 2 in this coming month, but we'll see how it goes (I've got all that good New Tax Year stuff to sort). In any case, the next 4 tracks of Lost Tracks volume 1 will be out over the next few weeks so I hope you enjoy them! In other news I flew a Hawk named Percy the other day which was a nice break from things. He was a cool bird! Take care and see you in the next post!

March 2026 Blog Post: Better Than The Book's Debut LIVE show, meeting online friends, press & guest features, Jabun's Lost Tracks Vol.1 Early Access, collaborator updates, a LIVE album to come + more!

3/3/2026

Hi everyone and hope you had a great February! It has been a heck of a month over here with some of the best times of my life followed by a few weeks of the dreaded seasonal lurgy! Better after the gig than before it though and I'm mostly better now. Should be back to 100% soon! There's a tonne of stuff to share today so let's get straight to it!

First of all and huge on the news, on Thursday 5th February 2026 after 14 years being purely a studio project, my ska punk project Better Than The Book finally made its LIVE show debut at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton in celebration of Ten Years On from the debut full-length album Two Years On! It was an unforgettable night of ska, pop-punk and alt-rock supported by Brighton's very own Look What Happened and LUVD and included an amazing cameo (and LIVE debut) from long time friend of BTTB/Jabun, Swedish Rapper, Bob Axell AKA Cyberdevil! We were on stage for over 70 minutes(?!), playing to ~80+ people! Not bad for a first ever show on a wet and rainy Thursday evening!

For those who couldn't make it or want to relive the moment, we managed to capture the FULL Better Than The Book LIVE set on Sam's Phone (The Sam-CAM)! This video is a single camera with raw camera audio, BUT we've been collecting various clips from people at the show AND also managed to get the FULL MULTITRACK RECORDING from the sound desk so there will be a Hi-Fi LIVE album and more LIVE videos coming later this year!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq1xvfEewDA

Special thanks to: Ben Bonham who did the live sound and lighting on the night (and for THIS completely improvised and mindblowing moment of lighting magic: 43:30), to Jack from LUVD for hitting that first pad on the MPC to start the show, to Cyberdevil for his amazing cameo and sharing his first time on stage with us, and to everyone who came to the show for an amazing night and celebrating with us including the rest of LUVD and Look What Happened who were FANTASTIC and a pleasure to share the stage with!

The Better Than The Book LIVE band is:
Nick Standing: Lead Vocals, Guitar & Sampler
Dr. Eamon D. Standing: Backing vocals, guitar & Harmonica Horns
Sam Brown: Backing Vocals & Bass
Andy Forman: Drums

Stay tuned for more gig videos to come and since then, I've been busy working on the studio mix for the live show which the $10 patrons have a sneak peak demo for in their rewards today! In the spirit of preserving the moment, there will be no performance edits, timing or tuning correction or overdubbing in the studio, just the pure feed from the concert as it came, mistakes and all. If I can't fix it with EQ, gating or volume changes then it won't be fixed! Read more and check out the first demo mix below:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/151544028

Following the an amazing cameo at Better Than The Book's debut live show, Cyberdevil (who also made his live debut at the show) also penned this amazing and heartfelt verse about the experience! Check out the acapella, the lyrics and the description too! It's all marvelous! Much love to you Bob. Gotta do this again at some point :) This acapella was also featured on Takeover Tuesday on Newgrounds this month!

https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1526382

And lastly on the gig news (for now), Hannah Calver of Punktuation Magazine was in the audience for the show and kindly wrote a lovely review of the entire night! Check it out below and thanks so much to Hannah for coming and partying with us!

https://www.punktuationmag.com/better-than-the-book-celebrate-ten-years-on-at-the-hope-ruin-brighton-5th-feb-2026/

Next on the news for this month and sort of following from the gig, I had one of the most surreal but amazing experiences because of it. As you can probably figure out from above, Cyberdevil came to the gig all the way from Sweden, but on top of that, another close online friend David Klein came all the way to the gig from New York! Both of these guys I've know for ~12-13 years online and met through Newgrounds and had regular contact with, worked on collaborative projects and stuff, and generally been some of the best and most consistent friends both on AND offline I've ever had so it was amazing to after all this time actually spend some time together IRL for the first time! Lots of showing them around Brighton, hanging out and chatting and doing (and eating) various things around the city; it was an absolute blast! And you know, there's always that worry that meeting online peeps is gonna be strange or awkward, but it really wasn't at all! Everything felt natural and cool and it was just amazing to hang out! Thanks so much to Bob and David for sharing Better Than The Book's debut LIVE show with me and for all the good times before and after the gig that week! It truly will be a trip I'll never forget, and I'm sure it won't be the last!

And speaking of Newgrounds, after performing BTTB's debut gig and turning a small but noteworthy profit (which I was pleasantly surprised about), the first thing I put my BTTB spoils towards was an annual Newgrounds Supporter subscription! It's about time and I'm happy to be able to finally contribute a little something back (other than the music and stuff) to this amazing community which has been my creative home for all these years! It really is one of the last great places on the internet IMHO and I hope it continues to be as such for many more years to come!

Onto some Jabun news! Now that that Better Than The Book's debut gig has been completed I thought it was finally the right time to start releasing Jabun's Lost Tracks! The first 8 tracks are complete and ready to go out and will released for streaming only to the public weekly over the next few months! Lost Tracks is a collection of unreleased Jabun material dating from mainly 2019 - 2025 with a few even earlier pieces and I'll be releasing the collection of 20+ revisited compositions over this coming year to finally get them all out there.

Some were spur of the moment ideas and experiments while others came as part of Jabun albums or EPs which never got finished/released but may eventually be recollected into such projects once all the Lost Tracks have been completed. I hope you enjoy this deep dive into my musical world that I've been keeping to myself all these years. It's time to let other people hear them. Lost Tracks will be available for streaming on YouTube and Newgrounds only, and available to download exclusively on Patreon. My subscribers on Patreon will be getting the artwork, MP3s (and WAVs for the $10 patrons) for the first 8 tracks (Vol. 1) right now, so it's early access before the rest of the world! Grab those rewards at the end of the post l and I hope you enjoy the first volume of Lost Tracks!

Onto some collaborative updates, the recent online game Ally's New Life by Some-Crappy-Edits just received an update and features Side Character In My Own Life by Better Than The Book in the hidden skateboarding mode! To access the mode hit "Esc" on the Palette Lock screen after completing the game to enter debug mode, then type "OLLIE" (all capitals) and press "Enter". You should hear a chime after which you'll be loaded into the bonus skateboarding mode! Check out the update below and thanks again for featuring BTTB in the project:

https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/1011029

Next, my long time animator colleague Sif Savery recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a TV pilot for her animated series Tales of Zale! You may recognise the name as I did the sound mixing for much of the online web series and the Flickering Lights short film! The campaign actually was funded for the first goal in the first 2 HOURS after launch and there's over 500 backers of the project already, but there's still some stretch goals to meet if they're able to really show the industry what the project is made of! If you have any money to spare please consider supporting this project:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/foxcap/tales-of-zale-new-tales-animated-pilot

Finally for the month, there's just a tonne of videos to share! It's mostly promo for Better Than The Book's Ten Year On show, but there's a load of behind the scenes and fun videos there! More to come soon and check out the updated playlist below:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWEmqIhrNPvQTBoOjZdKLgL4ecTvLz6sm

That about wraps things up for this HUGE monthly news and rewards post! I'll be busy mixing the live show and working on the next batch of Jabun Lost Tracks over the coming month while the first batch makes its way onto YouTube and Newgrounds over the coming weeks! I hope you enjoy all the new music and thanks as always for supporting my projects however you can! Take care and see you next month!

Hi everyone and hope you're having a great start to 2026! It's been an ULTRA intense month of preparation for what's sure to be the biggest moment of my musical journey so far, Better Than The Book's debut live show! Let's get started with the news post!

It's less than a week to go now and on Thursday 5th February at 7pm at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton, doors will open for a pop-punk, ska and alt-rock party like no other: Better Than The Book's debut live concert! The main theme of the gig is celebrating TEN YEARS ON since Better Than The Book's debut full-length album "Two Years On" and we thought what better way to celebrate than to play our very first live show! It's been a lot of hard work putting this together, but we've pulled out all the stops to make this the best possible show we can!

We'll be playing for about 1 hour, handpicking 14 tracks journeying through the 14 years of BTTB's discography + some extra surprises! Not only that, but you can't have a party without some friends so we've invited 2 of my favourite fantastic Brighton bands to open for us: Look What Happened and LUVD who will each be playing 30 minutes sets before we hit the stage! It's sure to be a great night of Brighton alternative music!

Tickets are available in advance on Fatsoma and you can use the code "TENYEARSON" (ALL CAPS, no spaces) for £1 off your ticket! We will also be doing tickets on the door for £8 each until we reach the venue capacity of 150 peeps! Music starts at 7:30pm sharp so get there as soon as you can to not miss a thing! Grab your tickets below to secure your spot and I'll see you there!

And as an extra incentive, for those who do book in advance though the Fatsoma though you'll be entered into a raffle to win a super limited and exclusive to the gig hat from the merch table to be announced and awarded at the show! Check it out below and good luck!

In other news (sort of), to help with the promo we've been pumping out a tonne of videos over the last few weeks to help properly introduce you to the live band and get you excited for the big night! We have group practice videos, solo practice videos, extra little performances AND live rig rundowns for each band member too (>18 videos over the last month + more to come leading up to the show on Thursday)! Check out the playlist below and I hope you enjoy them!

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWEmqIhrNPvQTBoOjZdKLgL4ecTvLz6sm

And along with those, Sam, one of my closest friends and live bassist for the band made this incredible video which honestly puts into words how much this live show means to us waaay better than (the book) I could ever express myself. Check it out below. This really is the culmination of so much more than just playing our first show!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRV_mvpcvTU

For those of you who are $10 patrons too, you have a sneak peek at the merch table goodies in your reward post today! Check that out over here:

One final thing for this month, a huge thanks to Aalasteir for nominating me for supporter status again on Newgrounds! This place has been my creative home for DECADES now so I reaaaally need to sort out my subscription! Thanks for the hard work all these years Tom creating and maintaining this amazing community!

And that about wraps things up for today! It's gonna be a huge and busy week and after that I have no idea! Probably get some good rest before getting back to some Jabun? We'll see! In any case I hope you're able to make it to the show, looking forward to seeing you there if so, and thanks as always for supporting Better Than The Book, Jabun and my various projects! Much love, and see you from the stage on Thursday!

Hi everyone and hope you're having a great start to 2026! It's been SUPER busy over here and is looking to be until Better Than The Book's big debut LIVE show in just less than a month's time! I can certainly appreciate why the big bands have their own managers and departments for this kind of stuff so they can focus on practice and the art! It is HECKTIC! It's a beginning of the year post so let's get straight to the news before reflecting on another year gone by (and boy was it a busy one)!

First up for this month, as mentioned above, most of my time has been spent preparing for BTTB's upcoming big LIVE show: practicing, promoting, sorting out the venue logistics, etc... before some brief downtime for the holidays! There's a load of surprises I'll not reveal just yet, but it's only a month left until the show so if you're planning on coming then head over to Fatsoma to grab your tickets before they all go! Use the promo code "TENYEARSON" (ALL CAPS) for a £1 off your ticket too! I look forward to seeing you there!

https://www.fatsoma.com/e/q2ub5sxo/better-than-the-book-presents-ten-years-on-with-special-guests-look-what-happened-luvd

Time's flying and more stuff to come about the above preparations when we get to all the new videos later in the post!

Meanwhile, while I've not been doing any recording or formal production last month, I have taken the time to make and finalise the artwork for Jabun's upcoming Lost Tracks project! Artwork is all complete, so this month I'm giving early access to the $10 patrons! Check out the post below:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/147544633

I'll be aiming to start releasing these new tracks (8 are complete so far, with another potentially 16 to come?) soon after Better Than The Book's LIVE show so expect more updates in March!

Next a fun feature for Better Than The Book: Side Character In My Own Life has been featured in the indie video game Ally's New Life on Newgrounds! The track is part of a secret mode, so let's see if you find it without any hints, but I hear there's an update coming soon for easier access to the secrets too. Thanks so much to Some-Crappy-Edits for having me on the project and enjoy "Ally's New Life"! It's super cool!

https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/1011029

The game also went on to receive a Newgrounds Front Page and Daily 3rd Place award too! Awesome work peeps!

Onto videos for the month, let's start with some holiday funtimes! My twin Eamon has been back to his usual holiday meme-filled mash-up spree and has released another 6 track Christmas EP! Check out his full list of mashups here and the new EP runs from #72 -> #76! Thanks so much Eamon!

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwEpjDbB6TAHQ7Khc1Nq5wCtnM-f0rUVc

Now onto my own videos + some special guest appearances from the Better Than The Book LIVE Band! There's a load of practice videos from various rehearsals, though strangely none of the 4 of us together this time, just Andy (drumming) solo, the band minus Andy, and the band minus Me! Makes for some interesting focus / breakdown! We're set for a big all 4 of us rehearsal next week though so expect some full band videos again soon! On top of that I've been back on organ trying out some new techniques and I've finally recorded the finale for the setting up the studio series this time focused on Patch Bays! Check out the updated playlist below:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWEmqIhrNPvQTBoOjZdKLgL4ecTvLz6sm

And here's a list of the new additions:
  • Andy drums Heartbeats - The KNIFE
  • Hearts Racing (LIVE Band Practice 14-11-2025 sans Andy's drums)!
  • Digging Cat Rapid Ghost Notes Organ Technique
  • Undead Education (LIVE Band Practice 14-11-2025 sans Nick)!
  • New Studio Part 7: Patch Bay + Mixer (FINALE)
  • Artificial Ignorance (LIVE Band Practice 14-11-2025 sans Andy's drums)!
  • Andy Plot Holes Drums

With the "New Studio" series finished now I put together a playlist of all the videos in the journey starting from closing up the old one! I hope you enjoy it and it helps inspire you on your own studio builds!

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWEmqIhrNPvTKBnhvGDkDD5W_26byNPFB

More Better Than The Book videos coming soon and I still need to record a video about the Roland J-6 sound sheet I put together last year. That's low priority for the mo though! I need to pace myself and prioritise in these busy times!

Finally for this post a yearly round-up! 2025 has been one of the most crazy and busy years for me so far! Of course the highlight of the year has to be the release of Better Than The Book's 3rd full-length album Side Character In My Own Life (cut to CD and vinyl too) which went on to receive a tonne of Newgrounds awards, blog features and some decent radio play too (+ the game feature above)! There was also the release of the bonus instrumental version of the album as well as the long overdue Apotheosis Video Game OST by Jabun which also went down well! 3 albums in a year is a bit overkill even if some were bonuses and remasters! In strange other album features, I forgot that I "contributed" to the "Is This What We Want?" anti government A.I. legislation protest album, and my twin Eamon released the Sonic The Hedgehog x BTTB - Endless Hopes and One-way Dreams Mashup EP too! Nice! Released music-wise the final thing this year was not 1 but 2 collaborations with Cyberdevil for his yearly INKtober challenge! Always good fun! Onto other things, after 2 full years of 2 YouTube videos a week I decided to take some time out and slow down to a more casual pace, but still managed 49 videos released this year though! After moving to a new home last year, I finally managed to finish setting up the new dream home studio, as well as finally put some metal grills on my homemade Leslie rotary speaker too! Busy busy busy but super cool! A highlight moment of the year was also seeing my Japanese heroes ELLEGARDEN at their first EVER UK show, which honestly was really the main inspiration for the next big bit of news: announcing Better Than The Book's first ever live show TEN YEARS ON in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the Two Years On debut full-length album! Although not released just yet, there is in fact a secret Better Than The Book track which is fully recorded by tied to another project waiting to be released next year too! LOTS of things to look forward to in 2026! Looking back at the goals I formally set myself:

1) Release the upcoming Better Than The Book album!
2) Finish recording the next Jabun album
3) Play my first live shows as Better Than The Book or Jabun
4) Finish setting up the studio

And I think I did pretty well! 1 & 4 complete + a big step forward for the other 2, though I'm not sure I'd class Jabun's Lost Tracks as an album? More so a collection (for the moment). Setting some new goals for 2026, I think I'll go with:

1) Play Better Than The Book's first LIVE Show
2) Finish Jabun's Lost Tracks collection (not necessarily a proper release)
3) Release the upcoming secret Better Than The Book single

We do plan on recording the live show so I'd like to add BTTB's first LIVE album(?!) to that list too, but let's focus on playing the show first! I'd also like to make an effort to try to slow down a bit too. 2025 was a busy year, but I don't think that level is sustainable, so once the LIVE show is done, I'm hoping I can slow down a bit and try pace myself better. Maybe play some more live shows too if things go well? We'll see! Wish me luck and I hope you have great years ahead for yourselves too!

That about wraps things up for this post! It's gonna be a heck of a busy month until the show in February, but I've ordered myself a new little audio toy/tool too (an Electro Harmonix Attack Decay Pedal (the 2019 one)), so I'm looking forward to having some fun with that when I can. It's been a long while since I bought some new equipment for the fun of it! Until the next post, I hope you have a great start to the year, come grab a ticket for the show and thanks as always for supporting my music and various projects however you can! Here's to a great 2025 and an even better (but not necessarily busier) 2026 to come! Take care!

Hi everyone and hope you're having a great start to the festive season! With the weeks closing in on Better Than The Book's "Ten Years On" debut live show, its been a super hectic month and only set to get busier! Let's start this one with a round up of the news since last time!

First of all and the BIG news for the month, Better Than The Book announced its debut live show "Ten Years On" with Special Guests Look What Happened & LUVD for Thursday 5th February 2026 @ The Hope & Ruin, Brighton (UK)! You can read all about it below:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/144011666

And grab your tickets on Fatsoma! Use the promo code "TENYEARSON" (ALL CAPS) for a £1 off your ticket!

https://www.fatsoma.com/e/q2ub5sxo/better-than-the-book-presents-ten-years-on-with-special-guests-look-what-happened-luvd

It's set to be a fun night of ska, pop punk and alternative rock as you'd expect from BTTB, and we'll be playing a 14 track, 1 hour set to celebrate 10 years since the Two Years On debut full-length album was released, and 14 years of Better Than The Book! Not only that, but our special guests Look What Happened and LUVD will each be playing 30 minute sets before we get on stage! I can't wait and I hope to see you there!

With the gig only 2 months away now, it's been a very busy month of practice for everyone involved! We unfortunately couldn't coordinate our schedules again this time, so there were actually 2 big group practices this month, one without our drummer Andy, and one without me (which I'm told was very strange)! Things seem to be taking shape well though and I'm looking forward to our next session in January where things should be pretty much solid! We did (video) record both sessions, with that second session (sans me) recorded with a fancy audio multitrack system allowing me to mix the band in post in the studio! I've been playing around with it and it's VERY fun! Expect to see and hear some clips from those in the coming months, and if you're a $10 patron, you actually have an early sneak peek clip from one of BTTB's live drummer Andy Forman's solo practice sessions now! Become a $10 patron and check out the post below:

In other project news, as I've been away and/or busy with preparing for this BTTB gig, there hasn't been too much time for Jabun's Lost Tracks, but I have made a start on the projects artwork! Slowly but surely moving forward, but this'll likely be on the back-burner again for a while as it has been since 2019. I'll be aiming to start releasing the first batch of tracks soon next year. Back to BTTB, there have been some other interesting developments happening too, buuuut I'm not allowed to talk about them just yet! Expect some more updates in January!

Next for this month's news, it's the final Bandcamp Friday of the year! You know the drill by now, so if you want to help support the independent artists you love (not just me) go pick up something from Bandcamp today! Thanks so much for supporting independent music!

Finally for this month's news, word of BTTB's debut live show is spreading and a huge thanks to The Punk Site & Pete's Rock News & Views for featuring Better Than The Book's "Ten Years On" debut live show on their news site! Check it out the features below and thanks so much peeps:

November 26, 2025 - Better Than The Book's Ten Years On Debut LIVE Show announcement featured on Pete's Rock News & Views

That about wraps things up for this post! It's set to be a super busy time practicing and preparing for this big gig, and hopefully I'll get a chance to finish off that Jabun Lost Tracks artwork while I'm at it too! Until the next one, go grab your gig tickets before they're gone, happy holidays, and thanks as always for supporting Better Than The Book, Jabun and my various projects as always! Enjoy the rest of 2025, and I'll see you next year!
