Hello everyone and hope you had a lovely week whatever you were up to. This week was a chill one for me working on more Better Than The Book and some admin stuff as well as going away for the weekend to celebrate Chinese New Year which was a whole lot of fun! Similarly to last week, there's not a lot of new media to share apart from the latest cover song, but there's some updates on upcoming projects to tell so I hope you enjoy that. Let's start with the latest cover song! First in the news for this blog post, it's week 6 out of 8 of the cover songs I recorded as Christmas gifts to my loved ones, and this week it's the final song dedicated to my parents, a very Johnny Cash version of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails (I'm sure you know the one)! I must say, this one was a challenge to try and do justice to, but I'm confident to say, although not straying far from the "original", I think this is one of my best recorded/produced cover performances to date! I hope you enjoy it and I'd love to know your thoughts if you'd like to share them. Without further wait, here's "Hurt": And with this track, that concludes the "Merry Christmas The Dings 2017" EP! I hope you enjoyed the 6 cover songs and in case you missed any, you can explore the complete EP on the new dedicated webpage by >>>clicking here<<<. Next week we start a brand new short series, 2 acoustic rap covers dedicated to my girlfriend Eva for Christmas 2017, starting with a mashup version of Papercut/PPR-KUT by Linkin Park! Hope you enjoy it and tune in next week to have a listen. Next on the news, some more updates on the upcoming Better Than The Book album! As of the end of last week, every song now has a fully composed drum track ready to start recording imminently! Similarly as with the lyrics, these are subject to some changes/edits as necessary before the final release, but as opposed to the simple loops I set up when composing the rest of the arrangement, these are all fully fledged drum performances complete with fills and everything you'd expect. Next on the production list, I need to service my guitars, then it'll be time to track the rhythm guitars (and possibly some leads), but there's some other projects I'd like to finish before I concentrate on this (more on that in a second). Overall, things are a tiny bit behind my initially planned schedule, but not beyond recovery. I look forward to sharing more information with you when I can and feel free to follow Better Than The Book on Twitter for more frequent updates, as well as (mostly) daily posts. Finally for this week some small updates on other upcoming projects. It's been a bit of a break from A P O T H E O S I S this week while I've waited for feedback on the latest additions to the composition, but having received approval, I'll be mixing that right after I finish this blog post! There's a second piece to do in this batch for the game, which is a variation on the to-be-mixed piece I mentioned, so I plan on finishing both of these before I start recording guitars for the new Better Than The Book album. With any luck it shouldn't be too long and I look forward to sharing the latest (and greatest) additions to the soundtrack in the coming month! In other projects, I just this morning received the initial mix for the delayed Black Sabbath esq collaboration with Subu Nomo, "Saboteur" and it is sounding glorious! Still a couple of little tweaks to do, but this one should be finished soon too and I look forward to sharing it. And that about wraps it up for the news this week. Next week is looking to be very much concentrated on working on A P O T H E O S I S again, as well as possibly starting to service some guitars ready to start recording for Better Than The Book shortly. New cover as usual to share next week and I'm sure there'll be more updates to tell too. As always, thank you for reading and supporting JabunAudio and my various projects and I hope you have a splendid week until the next update. Take care!

Hello everyone! It's been a pretty heads down and quiet week here are JabunAudio with only a few little updates to tell. Most of my days have been spent working more on the A P O T H E O S I S soundtrack which is going well, and also composing the drum parts for the upcoming Better Than The Book album (more updates on that in a moment). Other than that, not really much to share apart from the weekly cover song, so let's start off with that! So, first on the news in this blog post, it's week 5 of the acoustic cover songs dedicated to my parents, and this time I'm sharing a lovely 90's ska-punk classic, "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones! This has got to be one of my favourite ska-punk tracks of all time, and I hope I did it justice in this recording (I'm happy with the way it turned out). I hope you enjoy it, and stop by next week for the final track dedicated to my parents, a very Johnny Cash esq version of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. Happy listening! Next and lastly for the JabunAudio news this week, just a few little updates on how the upcoming Better Than The Book album is going. As of yesterday, 9 out of 10 drum tracks have been composed now, and 8 of those have been set up in sessions ready for guitar recording once the guitars are serviced! It's all coming together and I aim to have all of these drum/recording sessions sorted by this time next week. Gotta get some more guitar practice in before the red light is on so I'll be squeezing some that in when I can! That's about it for this week. Next week is looking to be much of the same though we shall see how it goes. If appropriate it'll be good to start servicing some guitars ready for BTTB recording, though I'll focus on trying to finish the A P O T H E O S I S work before I start. Anyways, hope you have a great week whatever you're up to and thanks as always for stopping by to support JabunAudio and my various projects. Until the next blog post, take care! Hello again, and it's been yet another busy week here at JabunAudio, mainly working on the A P O T H E O S I S soundtrack (which is going smoothly), as well as some more stuff for the upcoming Better Than The Book album (more on that in a moment). Despite the busy times though, there's not a whole lot to report this week compared to the last few posts, but here are some nice things to share nonetheless. Let's get straight to it! First in the news for this post, it's week 4 of the acoustic cover songs dedicated to my parents, and it's finally time to share some blazing guitar solos and 4 part vocal harmony from the 60's classic, "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield. This track is one I've been playing for years, and doing it justice when recording was a special kind of challenge. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out though! I hope you enjoy it and tune in next week for some acoustic ska punk, "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Happy listening! Next this week we take a look back to achievements of the past. This week two years ago, on the 6th of February 2016, I released my debut album "Two Years On" as Better Than The Book! A year later I released "Two Years On [Instrumentals]" to celebrate the album's first anniversary, and today the upcoming follow-up album is in pre-production in the studio ready to start recording imminently. To the listeners, interviewers, radio DJs, media makers who've shared my music in their games and videos, people who keep asking when my next american tour will be, the heartfelt message senders, and my friends/family and loved ones, thank you for all the support over the last 2 years! I never thought this album would have reached out so far across the globe from the tiny bedroom studio it was made in. All the Better Than The Book original music is available on bandcamp here and if you've yet to hear it, I hope you enjoy it! Looking forward to kicking ass with the next album and I can't wait to share it this summer! Happy 2nd anniversary to Two Years On: And moving on from that, we come to the last piece of news this week, some updates on the upcoming Better Than The Book album! Progress is going well and as of today 6 out of 10 drum tracks are planned out ready for recording! Just 4 left to go which should hopefully be done by the end of next week, then it's just servicing guitars to do before we finally hit the big red button and start recording! I'm super excited to get stuck in with recording this album, but I've gotta make sure to do all of this necessary groundwork to ensure the smoothest production process. Looking forward to sharing more updates with you when I can and hope you're as excited as I am to hear the follow-up to Two Years On! For more frequent updates, feel free to follow Better Than The Book on Twitter at @BTTB_UK. And that about wraps things up for this week. Next week is currently looking to be much of the same stuff: A P O T H E O S I S music and Better Than The Book drums. No complaints there, but we'll see if anything else crops up too. Hope you all have a great week whatever you're up to and thanks as always for supporting JabunAudio and my various projects. Looking forward to sharing the goings on in the next blog post, and take care until then! Hello everyone! I was fearful that this week would be comparatively uneventful following the last few jam-packed blog posts, and although in some ways it has been calmer, there's still a heck of a lot to report! I must say I am missing my brother a fair bit since he's moved but we've been in regular contact and he seems to be settling in over there. He also informs me that he's picked up an amazing piece of gear which I've wanted for years and will be playing it constantly until giving it to me for my birthday in just under 3 months time! I'm so excited for it, but I shall wait to make the big reveal here in around 12 weeks time when I can actually play it for myself! If I have to be patient then so do all of you! Hehe, anyways, this week has been full of many surprises and although I thought I'd be spending most of it working on the latest track for the A P O T H E O S I S game (which I did make a fair amount of progress on), I actually spend a lot of this week recording vocals for a collaboration with Indian guitarist and producer Subu Nomo. We've been working on this collaborative track for the past few months, but due to illness, holidays and other production problems, it's been delayed a couple of times. As of this week though, it's finally back on (phew!)! I'll release more details about it when the track is released (which shouldn't be too long) and I look forward to sharing it with you all soon! Anyways enough with the introductions and what I've actually been up to, let's get onto the main news this week and new music to share! Firstly, it's the 3rd week of the (mostly) acoustic cover songs dedicated to my parents, and this time we have a studio recording of the same track as last week's video cover: "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. I say mostly acoustic because I didn't actually have my acoustic 12-string at hand when recording this, so instead it's the 12-string side of my homemade electric double-neck. I think it fulfilled the job well though, and I hope you enjoy this intimate rendition of a timeless rock classic. Next week we go back even further in time for Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" so stay tuned for that and I look forward to sharing it! Happy listening! Next this week, some awards and celebrations! Firstly, I'm super happy to announce that last week's game Brutal Bunnyhop (ac_car) went on to receive the Daily 5th Place award on Newgrounds! A huge congratulations to the game's designer Alexander Clay and thanks so much to Newgrounds for celebrating our work in the community. If that wasn't enough recognition for the week, after over a decade of making music on Newgrounds, my user account Jabun, which covers all my contributions from Better Than The Book to Jabun, my music as Nick Standing, collaborations, and my animation post-production work, was made 'Newgrounds User of the day' for January 31st, 2018! Another massive thanks to Newgrounds for celebrating my work and I very much look forward to uploading more original music and collaborations to the audio portal soon! Finally this week, since it's the start of a new month, I thought it'd be nice to reflect on the goals of January and set some new goals for February. In my first blog post of the year, I set myself a few targets for January and I'm happy to say that they are all complete (sort-of). The JabunAudio website is finished, though as explained last week, there's some room for future expansion, the lyrics to the new Better Than The Book album are complete, and I've started on the Final Boss Theme for A P O T H E O S I S, although there is still much work to do on that. For February I'd like to continue this trend and as it currently stands, my goals are to: 1) Have all the drums for the new BTTB album drafted out ready for recording. 2/10 tracks are done; just 8 left to go (and most of those are at least partially drafted). 2) Service all the guitars ready to start recording by the end of February. 3) Finish the A P O T H E O S I S Final Boss Theme. I have another couple of goals too, but nothing significant enough to share here, and I'm sure there'll be more things to add to that list before the month is out. I think the goals above should be doable and I'll keep checking in with them as the month goes on. Let's continue to work hard! And that about wraps things up for this week. Next week will undoubtedly be spent working on the A P O T H E O S I S soundtrack and maybe some BTTB drums in the weekend. There's also the new cover song to release, and possibly some more work on the Subu Nomo collaboration to do too. Whatever happens, we shall see! Anyways, I hope you've enjoyed this week's blog post, thanks as always for supporting JabunAudio and my various project and I hope you all have a good week until next time. Take care! |
