Hello everyone, and after 6 weeks of unscheduled down time, I'm finally pleased to announce that JabunAudio is open once again and accepting commissions! Hope you've all been well since the last update, and it's great to be writing this long overdue first blog post from the new studio, JabunAudio 3.0: 'The Loft'! Things have been up and running smoothly (ish) since Monday, but it's been a hectic week catching up on paperwork/admin and getting the news out for the reopening, so there's not been much actual audio work this week to report. No updates on the new Better Than The Book album this week either, though I aim to get back to that as soon as I can. Anyway, to start off this post, I'd formally like to welcome you to the new place JabunAudio 3.0: The Loft, and with that, let's get the news rolling! Onwards!
So obviously the big news this week is the re-opening and the new studio, but as well as sharing pictures of the new place, there are many other exciting things to report about it too! With a much larger footprint than the Bamboo Forest, The Loft has allowed me to reinstall some of my bigger (and more powerful) equipment into the room, as well as bring in more things that there simply wasn't space for in the previous place. The highlights of these are my incredibly versatile homemade 12/6 double neck electric guitar, blissfully saturated valvestate Marshall AVT amplifier and the extensive pedal board that I use with it, and a Yamaha 6 string acoustic! It's been around a year since I've had these major studio players at my side and along with the new Jaguar, my Yamaha Pacifica, and the Sterling Bass, now is the time for some serious electric guitar session work if you need it! All the usual equipment is here too, including a range of hardware synths, software voice banks and drum machines, so if you need anything, I'm sure I'll be able to sort it out for you! The layout and shape of The Loft is also a welcome improvement on the Bamboo Forest. With a staggered ceiling, great left/right symmetry and an expanded array of acoustic paneling, the acoustics in this room are superb, which coupled with the software corrected frequency response (which was pretty good even before correction) makes this room an ideal environment for audio production and small scale acoustic recording. Ergonomically too, the increased space allows for a less cluttered set-up for many tasks which is always welcome. Anyway, I'm sure you're eager to see it, so without further wait, I present to you, JabunAudio 3.0: The Loft! (Please excuse my crummy photography skills). I look forward to making many a great record, production and memory in this new place:
As you can see I've kept some of the bamboo theme up too!
Next on this week's news, just a couple of little updates on the admin side of things. To reflect the changing exchange rates since I last set them up, I've temporarily re-evaluated the £GBP prices for my services on the website. I realised also that the downloadable list of services sheet is very much out of date in terms of what services I can provide now as well as the exchange rates for the prices in various currencies, so this is an issue I'll need to address soon. I'm aiming to do a revamp of this website as well as the services sheet soon to clean things up and make things more accurate for the current times. I'll keep you updated on that as and when it happens. Next, to celebrate the opening of The Loft, I've put together a new demo reel for one of my favorite services to offer, music mastering! It's been a while since I did one of these, so I thought what better time to release a new one than now. The drill's the same as last time: For each pair of clips, the first is the final mix given to me before mastering, and the second is the final master as I delivered. In each of these cases I was also the, composer, recording and mix engineer and producer, so this serves as a demo reel for those services too and by popular demand since the last set of demo reels, each pair of clips has been approximately level matched to more clearly show the differences between the final mix and masters (apart from volume). In reality, the masters works out to usually be a few dB louder than the final mix, though I always aim to make dynamic, clean and punchy masters which will encourage people to turn up the music, rather than turn it down! For anyone interested in me mastering their music, feel free to send me a message via the contact page on this website. I hope you enjoy the new demo reel and I look forward to working with you soon to get you music sounding the way it was meant to be heard! Finally this week, I just want to share the next two videos from the YouTube weekly stream of my recent electronic/ambient album "Daydream". Next week will be the final track, so be sure to tune in for that and feel free to subscribe to the channel to hear new music as soon as it's released. Hope you enjoy the tracks and looking forward to making some more chill music for you soon!
And that about wraps things up for this week! There's still a lot of admin things to catch up on for next week, but if I can I'd like to do a little more work on the new BTTB album if I have the time. A couple of exciting things are coming up in the pipeline too which I hope to share with you when I can. Until next week, I hope you all have a great time, thanks again for your patience in the 6 weeks of downtime and thank you as always for supporting JabunAudio and my other creative endeavors. See you all next week and take care!
