A super busy time this week and a lot to show for it despite spending half of it away! Long story short, after the previous blog post, I traveled back to my hometown for a long weekend to celebrate my older twin brother graduating from Mr to Dr. Eamon D. Standing! Words can't express how proud I am of him and if that wasn't reason enough reason to visit, he moved to Okinawa this week  (probably still travelling as I type this). I wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing him again in April when he's due to visit. Anyways, it was a really nice weekend away and more on that in a second, but let's get onto the regular audio news for this week. It's a little later than usual as I was working hard to finish some things before this post, but I hope you enjoy it! Here we go:

First off, another 7 days go by and another cover song is released! This week we have another acoustic version dedicated to my parents: "Aliens Exist" by Blink-182. Hope you enjoy it and tune in next week for a truly classic and timeless track, "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. Happy listening!

Next this week and back to the topic of my trip home last weekend, I'd like to share with you another special live performance, this time with my twin brother Dr. Eamon Standing:

As I mentioned previously Eamon moved to Okinawa this week and after a sendoff Saturday party celebrating earning his doctorate as well as wishing him the best on his travels, we decided to have one final jam session before he flies over to Japan. Love you bro, congrats on the PhD, and best of luck out there! Super proud of you! This video is courtesy of my mum and I think there are more snippets to come so stay tuned for more soon (It was a pretty long jam session)! Funny note: the jam was completely unrehearsed, and some of the songs including this one we've never even played together, we just figured "let's try it out". It was all performed at around midnight after over 10 hours of partying throughout the day too, so please excuse the occasional hiccup and I hope you enjoy it anyway. Let's start (despite another version coming in next week's blog post) with a rendition of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd! I'm on 12-sting and lead vocals, and Eamon's on the piano and backing. Hope you enjoy it!

Next this week, some more exciting news as "Make Your Mark" by Better Than The Book gets featured in a video game on Newgrounds! With the hook-line "Violence is a thing that STILL happens", Brutal Bunnyhop is a Doom-esq first person shooter in a car by Alexander Clay. The game was created for Pixel Day 2018 and is free to is free to play on Newgrounds. Thanks so much to Alex for inviting me to be part of this project, and keep up to date with his projects by visiting his Website and Newgrounds page or following him on Twitter. Click the thumbnail below to be taken to the game and hope you enjoy it (note: this game is not recommended for those who may suffer from epilepsy or similar conditions).

Penultimately this week, I'm super happy to announce that the revamping of the JabunAudio website is finally complete! Since last week I've added JabunAudio's most comprehensive music portfolio yet (as well as a revamped main portfolio page), a fully featured services page showing base prices and descriptions for all services as well as additional pages for my specialty services Digital Mastering and Audio Post-Production, and of course a revamped homepage with an updated "Latest and Greatest Productions" section and a brand new "JabunAudio has assisted" section with logos and links to some of the high profile and notable clients I have worked with over the years (obtained with their permissions of course). It's been one heck of an undertaking and well overdue to finish, but I'm pleased with the way it's turned out. Feel free to explore the site and I'd love to know your thoughts (also please let me know if you spot something that seems off and I'll correct it ASAP)! Some additional thoughts from my end: I'm pondering adding a JabunAudio newsletter sign-up box though currently I'm not sure what I would write about, and I'm also thinking about adding an equipment list specifically for the session playing services so that there's a comprehensive inventory of the gear and instruments I have available for people's productions (and there's a lot of it!). Just thoughts at the moment but we shall see where they lead.

Finally this week, after over 3 years of JabunAudio, contributing to over 20 million views of YouTube videos and almost 200 music tracks, as well as receiving international Radio Play, a number of awards, and even working on a few TV shows and video games, I felt it was finally time for me to raise my service rates a little! It's not by much, but just a bit to let people know that I value my growth and work and that countless people across the world have appreciated my contribution to their projects! Thanks for all your support over these years for helping me to get this far and I look forward to working with you in 2018!

And that about wraps things up for this blog post! It's been busy times lately hasn't it? What's in store for next week? Well with the website finally revamped I aim to get back to composing for the  A P O T H E O S I S  game starting tomorrow, and boy have I been looking forward to this! The Ernie Ball Sterling has been set up and tweaked for some more drop-C distorted bass madness and this final boss fight should be the grand climax for A P O T H E O S I S's soundtrack! Other than that, expect to see an acoustic cover of "Wish You Were Here" next week, and maybe even another live video if we're lucky! Other than that, I'll see where the wind takes me. Until then, I hope you all have a great week whatever you're up, and thanks as always for supporting JabunAudio and my various audio endeavours. See you next time, and take care!

A cover well done, and looking forward to next weeks rendition on this one! :D Will be interesting to see how they differ...

That live video too, looks like a good time, even if it took a while to sync up, and the piano certainly comes across stronger than the guitar in the recording. :)

I like the idea of a list of gear, and cool news regarding the rest of the site and game! For the Newsletter: could maybe have a toggle with BTTB as a sub-category, as well as any other sub-projects, so for starters people will get those newsletters if they sign-up for the 'main thing', if no other important matters pop up?

Hope the rising rates don't scare people off; just make it all the clearer you're up there with the main competition at this point!

Many thank :D Interested to see how you like this coming week’s version as well (should have been released about an hour ago on YouTube actually :D)

Hehe, yes admittedly we were both pretty tired at that point but all things considered I think it went pretty well. It’d be cool to have a properly recorded live session at some point (with all the studio equipment as well as the cameras I mean), though I have no idea when that’ll be a possibility.

There is actually a separate BTTB newsletter (as I’m sure you already know), but that sounds like a good idea for options. Still thoughts in space at the moment, but definitely something to think about :)

It’s always been a weird issue: rates. I remember when I’ve actually been turned down for not charging enough before, but hopefully with the credits and examples of my work up here, it’ll let people know that they’re paying for great and reliable services. It’s still a lot cheaper than the BIG studios like Abbey Road, so I know I’m not going too overboard with the price XD

Ah, should be seeing it through the feed soon, then! :D

For sure. :) A little suitably seasonal session in Okinawa maybe?

Indeed, was thinking of that one. :) That you could maybe have a 'main' Jabun newsletter with any newsletters like the BTTB one included by default, so if there's no Jabun-specific stuff maybe there'll be some from the other projects! For sure.

Oh man, people not wanting to pay too LITTLE... hard to comprehend! XD Well, I mean I do understand their reasoning, but seems you have legitimacy enough to not get turned down regardless of pricing. Would be different if this was a shady service with little to no showcase of earlier work. For sure; hope so! Gotta go check what levels the competition prices at hmm, Abbey Road (assume they've got a bit to do with the Beatles, and thus:) sound expensive...

Indeed :D

Heheh, as much as I’d like to it’ll probably be difficult to take all the necessary gear over to Japan. Probably easier to wait until he comes to visit XD

Ah interesting idea, I need to figure out how to make something like that work (automatically I mean, there’s obviously the long way around of keeping track of everyone individually, but that’ll become tedious very quickly I recon)

Yup... well back then I didn’t such a big portfolio, but now I feel it’s at a stage where I can justify the price and have the proof to back it up. What I’ve also found in the past is that often I’m undercharging and working lots of over time to fill in a task. I’m hoping the new pricing will better reflect the amount of time I put into the work. For comparison I was charging $50 (~£40 at the time) for mastering before, I’ve put that up to £50 per track (up to 10 minutes), Abbey Road Charges upwards from £90, and the person who was fishy about my prices wanted to go for an engineer in the $200 (~£160 at the time) price range. Just goes to show that price means nothing, and that it’s all in the eye of the client and the service provide. All in all, I just aim to make great sounding productions at a reasonable price that will support the upkeep of the studio and my lifestyle in a reasonable £/h conversion.

Well you could always buy some JAPANESE gear! :D Bound to be some pretty cool stuff over there!

For sure.

Ah yeah, I've had similar experiences with design. Working with flat fees is particularly difficult since you can't really add to it if it takes longer than expected... and clients often end up going back and forth a bit more than you expect them too. For sure, that's the only way to about it really! Hope it's just the right balance now. :) Abbey Road wasn't as insanely pricey as I'd expected btw, good to know.

Oh believe me there is some AWESOME Japanese gear out there (See next blog post XD). So much stuff I wish I could get :D

Indeed, I think it’s much better to overestimate it rather than make a loss (time or money) from a job, and for sure I know that feeling. Yup, hoping so too, though time will tell I suppose. Hehe, well that’s just Abbey road’s online prices. I’m sure it’ll be a lot more expensive to book an in-studio session there! (Probably not unreasonable considering their history though :D)
